Flotiq & Flutter: Multilingual Content for JTI’s Mobile App
Discover how Flotiq’s headless CMS supports mobile app development by managing translations, market data, and large-scale content delivery. The Ploom App was developed by Accenture Song, in close collaboration with the Flotiq technical success team.
About the Client
Japan Tobacco International (JTI) is the owner of the Ploom brand, a line of tobacco-heating devices. Among them is Ploom AURA, which heats rather than burns tobacco. The device works together with the Ploom App, which adds functions such as heating modes, device tracking, and real-time status updates. The Ploom brand is available globally, across markets with different languages and regulatory requirements. This creates the need for efficient multilingual content management and localization within the mobile app.
Through the Ploom App, users can:
select heating modes to adjust session length and intensity,
locate their device using the built-in Device Radar,
check battery status and device performance in real time,
receive software updates,
and access additional services such as rewards and live support.
The Challenge
As JTI developed the Ploom App, it needed a content management solution capable of supporting a multilingual and regulated mobile product. The requirements included:
managing translation keys and synchronizing them between the global master content and markets,
localize content for different countries,
synchronizing image assets containing text,
adapting content to both local language and nicotine-related legislation,
enabling efficient expansion into new markets,
and keeping the process straightforward for content editors.
The Solution
The Ploom App was developed by Accenture, with support from Flotiq technical success team. Flotiq was selected because it offers:
An interface
that is simple for content editors to work with
A translation plugin
to streamline multilingual management
The ability to add and publish
new translations incrementally as the app grows
And easy export
of keys between markets in different countries
Beyond translation, Flotiq also stores market-specific settings, device update information, and customization options. Built-in caching ensures efficient delivery of this data to mobile users. The mobile app was developed by an outstanding team of engineers from Accenture Song, working in close collaboration with a Flotiq consultant engineer, who provided guidance throughout the entire app development process. This close partnership between JTI, Accenture and Flotiq ensured smooth integration, efficient communication, and led to several improvements to the multilingual content management plugin.
The Results
On September 1st, 2025, Ploom App V1.0 went live in Switzerland. Within a short period, the app reached strong adoption among users, marking an important milestone for JTI’s digital presence. This launch represents the beginning of a broader journey. The app will continue to grow in its features and gradually expand into new markets worldwide.
The Conclusion
With Flotiq as the backbone of its content management, JTI was able to efficiently handle multilingual content and regulatory differences. The solution proved easy to use, adaptable to growth, and reliable in everyday operations. The cooperation between JTI, Accenture, and Flotiq technical team shows how well-matched partners and clear processes can accelerate development and deliver meaningful value for both the company and its customers.
Although the project may not have always been in the spotlight, it required an immense amount of effort and coordination across multiple JTI teams and external partners. Development ran smoothly with almost no hiccups. We all know this is just the beginning of the journey. Ploom is JTI’s very first consumer-facing mobile app, and from here it will grow on its features and expand globally. Thank you all for your outstanding work, commitment, and support throughout the journey
